Moving Check List

A moving check list can help you stay organized for the big day.

When you have decided to move to a new location there are many things that need to be done. It is always a good idea to start planning your move as early as possible. Waiting to the last minute can cause you lots of anxiety. You also run the risk of forgetting important details that should have been taken care of. To help make your move a more pleasant one you should prepare a moving check list to use as a guide.

Trash the Junk

One of the first things on this moving check list should be a time set aside for eliminating any items that you do not want to take with you. You could have a big sale or give items to charity, whatever way you prefer is up to you - it's just important to get rid of anything that you do not want to keep. This will save you the trouble of moving these items making it less for you to have to deal with later.

Ensure Readiness of New Location

The next thing your moving check list should include are preparations to ensure that the location you plan to move into will be available and ready by the date you plan to move in. Get estimates on what it will cost you either from the movers you will be using or prices on what it will cost you to rent a truck if you are doing the packing and moving yourself. Go ahead and schedule a pick-up date with movers or reserve a truck for the day you will need it.

Utility Arrangements

Schedule a time on this list to call and make arrangements for your utilities services to be disconnected. Have this planned a couple weeks before you plan to actually make the move. This will save you a lot of problems later on. Don't forget to also have the utilities turned on in your new location a day or two before you plan on moving in. Start packing early to avoid having to do everything in a rush.

Store Important Papers

Many times during a move important papers get misplaced or even lost; put these in a convenient safe place before you make the move to ensure you do not encounter this problem. Add this to your moving check list so you will remember to do it early in your preparations. As your moving day draws closer so will the anxiety of making sure that nothing gets forgotten, so make sure your moving check list includes things like filling out a change of address form and contacting your creditors so they will have your new address.

Confirm Travel Reservations

A couple days before you are ready to leave your old location be sure and confirm any reservations that may be needed while traveling and have the items you need for traveling packed and ready to go. Make your check list early and keep it handy so you can refer to it often. This will help to make the move go much smoother.
